On April 8, 1994, the history of the later TF-FIU began. On July 29 of the same year, the Boeing 757 was delivered to Iberia. After further stops, including Air Europa, the aircraft came to the Icelandair Group in 2004 and received its Icelandic registration TF-FIU.

At the end of 2014, the chapter began that would make her world famous. A specialized team of artists transformed the Boeing 757 into the Hekla Aurora using elaborate airbrush technology. Northern lights in green, turquoise and blue stretched across an Icelandic winter landscape, while specially programmed LED lighting made the aurora visible in the cabin as well.

After more than 31 years, 80,622 flight hours and 29,356 landings, her active time ended in 2025. On October 12, Icelandair bid farewell to the Hekla Aurora with a special sightseeing flight over Iceland. A little later, the aircraft was transferred to Lleida in Spain. There, in July 2026, we were able to secure parts of the original outer skin and use them to produce the Aviationtag × Icelandair Edition together with Icelandair.

Each Aviationtag comes directly from the material of this aircraft. The complex paintwork, flowing colour transitions, stars and different areas of the winter landscape make each piece unmistakable. No day looks exactly like the other – and that's exactly where its special character lies.

The TF-FIU was a Boeing 757-256 with manufacturer serial number 26243 and was powered by two Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4 engines. An aircraft that has connected people between Iceland, Europe and North America for decades and now travels on in a completely new form.

With the engraved registration TF-FIU, the aircraft type and an individual serial number, each Aviationtag becomes a clearly assignable piece of aviation history.
