Description
At the end of 1958, Pan Am took delivery of the modernized and upgraded Boeing 707-320 “Intercontinental”. It enabled Pan Am to fly non-stop from New York to Frankfurt and Rome. This was a significant advance over earlier models that required stopovers and a major reason why Pan Am was able to consolidate and expand its leading position on Transatlantic routes. “Jet Clipper Fleetwing” was the fourth of 20 707-320s powered by Pratt & Whitney JT4 turbojet engines and entered service in 1959. Just like the original, this 1/200 scale model has a special livery feature: Shortly before she was retired in 1970, N717PA was one of the few of the originally delivered 707-320s that received the slightly modernized livery that was introduced in parallel to the introduction of the then revolutionary Boeing 747, with the airline’s titles shortened to just “Pan Am”.
